Cello To The Jungle

Two guys. Two cellos. "Welcome To The Jungle."

Karmin Does Nicki Minaj

I'm in love.

Tesla Covers Girl Talk

Tesla coils, that is.

Here's a pair of Tesla coils covering Girl Talk's "This Is The Remix."

Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra

Ok. This is awesome.

The Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra is a group of musicians that takes hipster favorites and gives them orchestral makeovers. Here they are performing MGMT's "Time To Pretend:"

Cool, huh? Here's another one:

The Opposite of UR DOIN IT RAWNG

I don't know what it is about combining the things 'Brooklyn' and 'boys' and 'band', but I usually come out a fan of the result. I caught a Harper Blynn show last month and then utilized my powers of Google-Fu to explore the far reaches of (uh, YouTube?) Cyberia, collecting material on them.

I'm a picky so-and-so where cover songs are concerned. I believe that if you can't do it better than the original (a true rarity) or do it with a different-yet-vicious spin, then don't do it at all. But like this: Don't! Do it! At ALLLLL. Fellow music-hounds, I know you know what I'm talking about.

Here's Harper Blynn doing a pretty terrific take on Beyonce's 'Halo', a song that I formerly found kind of tedious:

Brooklyn. Boys. Band. See?

Ben Folds Does Ke$ha

Is this really what I'm hearing?

"Rat-tat-tat-tat on your dum-dum drum
The beat's so phat (fat?) gonna make me cum"

Oy, Ke$ha. Oy to you too, Folds, for covering this crap.

Jack Black And Jason Segal Cover Bing Crosby And David Bowie

Remember that killer "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth" song with Bing Crosby and David Bowie from back in the day?

Well Jason Segal and Jack Black have redone it, in cartoon form. And if you dig the tune, you can buy it from iTunes and the proceeds are going to a nice charity to help benefit the families of the American military so that's pretty righteous.

Incidentally, these two are both in the upcoming Gulliver's Travels film which I'm not looking forward to, but I guess you can't win them all.

The Lost Fingers

An acoustic band of Frenchmen that can go from Soft Cell to AC/DC to Paula Abdul to Michael Jackson… even Stevie frickin'Wonder (!!!) in ONE ALBUM… All I can say is, "Hey baby, bring summa that over here..."

Folks, I am not a purist. I am a HUGE fan of the cover band… ESPECIALLY if they rock… ESPECIALLIER if they rock because they get all creative with a cover song. OR TWELVE.

The song list: "Pump Up the Jam," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Incognito," "Touch Me," "Part-Time Lover," "Fresh," "Billie Jean," "Careless Whisper," "Tainted Love," "Straight Up," and "Black Velvet."

These songs, the unique sound and style, is why I love me my Lost Fingers. Their album, Lost in the 80s, rocks my world. Their version of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long"… let's just say Justin Timberlake thought he brought sexy back? That baby boy don't even know.

Satan Ruined My Sweet Dreams

I was looking for a good song to kick off my hump day yesterday and settled on "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics. And that made me remember the Marilyn Manson cover from the '90s.

There were a number of '80s songs covered in the '90s, some pretty good, some pretty awful, but the Manson version of "Sweet Dreams" really creeps me out. It's like Satan took a puppy and said "Hey cute little puppy, want some nightmares? Listen to this song while I eat this baby unicorn!"

Just for the record, things that creep me out: spiders, eyeballs, this cover.
