Top 25 Movies Of 1987 (Nos. 16-20)

For this week's Ranked!, we compiled the twenty-five greatest movies from twenty-five years ago, 1987. Tell us what you think when you get down to #1. And let us know if you would've ordered them differently.

Here are numbers 16-20:

20. Three Men And A Baby

Three Men And A Baby just might be the best thing to ever happen to 1987. There are many reasons why this movie made it to our list of Top 25 movies from 1987. Maybe it's the adorable baby Mary, or maybe it's watching three clueless bachelors talk about "doodles" and figuring out how old the baby is by "feeling her teeth". Whatever it is, it worked. Everyone and their mothers (literally) consider this movie a classic and a must-have to add to your DVD, Blu-Ray, Smart TV, Hulu, Netflix que, or whatever the hell everyone uses to watch movies these days. I can't exactly pinpoint what I love the most about this movie. It might be a combination of watching Tom Selleck's character buying baby food for the first time, the outrageous interior design of their bachelor pad that screams '80s, or it could be the very happy ending where baby Mary and her mom end up living with the guys (I'd love to know how that turned out). Actually, now that I think of it... what I love most about Three Men And A Baby is all that chest hair.--Air Bear

Top 25 Movies Of 1987 (Nos. 21-25)

For this week's Ranked!, we compiled the twenty-five greatest movies from twenty-five years ago, 1987. Tell us what you think when you get down to #1. And let us know if you would've ordered them differently.

Here are numbers 21-25:

25. Can't Buy Me Love

In the '80s, movies weren't as divided by gender lines as they are today. There weren't "guy movies" or "girl movies," there were just "teen movies." Can't Buy Me Love is a classic example. It's got a love story at the center, but wrapped up in enough nerdy angst and fart jokes to provide something for everyone. Can't Buy Me Love was one of those staples of cable. It seemed like there wasn't a moment when it wasn't on. Which is why we watched it so much and why we loved it.--Daddy Geek Boy

DVD Review: The B-52s' With The Wild Crowd! Live In Athens, GA

I saw the B-52s in concert in 1991 or 1992 and the first thing I thought when I watched their most recent DVD, With The Wild Crowd! Live In Athens, GA, was that this was exactly like seeing them in concert, amazingly enough, twenty years later. The concert, which celebrated the 34th anniversary of the B-52s' first gig and saw them return to Athens, GA for a 2011 Valentine's Day show was released on DVD this March.

The concert was a good, strong performance of exactly what has kept them popular throughout their career: quirky, infectious songs that celebrate the party in all of us. But I must admit, when I first started watching the DVD, I didn't think it was great; the missing element was the crowd. There is just nothing like being part of the crowd at a B-52s concert, and you can see them in the video, with crazy hair and ecstatic grins and the wild costumes that are part of the B-52s experience. I watched this show and wished I had been there because then it would have been fantastic! But my initial assessment was that With The Wild Crowd! Live In Athens, GA was solid.

However I made that judgement prematurely. I had faith enough in their fans' energy that I wished I had attended that particular concert, but I didn't have enough faith in the B-52s. (Forgive me!) Unlike so many others, the longer this band performed, the higher their energy rose until it was veritably leaking out of the screen. While there was very little back and forth interaction between the crowd and front people, Fred Schneider, Cindy Wilson, and Kate Pierson, they clearly didn't need extra chitchat to help communicate with the crowd, or with the at-home viewer for that matter. By the end of the concert, ending spectacularly with "Strobe Light," "Planet Claire," and the famous "Rock Lobster," I was bopping around the room, singing along, and fighting the impulse to put on my go-go boots.

The DVD also includes a nice lengthy interview of Schneider, Wilson, Pierson, and Keith Strickland discussing how they all met and how beginning was almost more of an art piece than any intention to start a band. With some really fun stories and a look into their personalities, it was nice to reminisce along with the band. Featuring 20 of some of their most popular songs, overall, I would say this concert DVD is a very nice must-have for the B-52s fan, or for anyone who wants to put on something fun for a party.

INXS, "Never Tear Us Apart"

From 1987, here's INXS with "Never Tear Us Apart."

Enjoy!

Seven Questions In Heaven With Level Up's Gaelan Connell

I can count on one hand the number of shows my daughter likes that I enjoy as well. One such show is Cartoon Network's Level Up, a tale of a group of gamers who accidentally open a portal and, along with the help of the game's creator, must send all the bosses and villains and monsters that escape from the game back home. Level Up's cast was nice enough to sit down and chat with us and we're going to feature a different actor each week.

We're kicking things off by spending Seven Questions In Heaven with Gaelan Connell, who plays Wyatt on Level Up.

Tell us about the character you play on Level Up.
On Level Up I play Wyatt AKA Black Death. Although Dante and Lyle consider Wyatt to be the nerd of the group, what they really mean is that he's the extremely smart one. When the Neverfail clan goes on quests, Wyatt's the one who comes up with the comprehensive, sophisticated, and mostly-genius super-plans.

Do you share any common traits with your character? Any noticeable differences?
Besides being super smart and terrible with the ladies? Kidding, kidding. The most similar I get with my character is probably the way I yell at the TV I'm playing video games. That and I stole my motorcycle pajamas that I wear onscreen so I could wear them at home too. Yep.

Thunder Buddies For Life!

Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, is making his big screen debut. He's written, directed, and voiced the lead of a new film called Ted, due out this summer. The film also features Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. A new red-band trailer was released today and it's pretty funny. It's definitely NSFW so you've been warned.

I love love love funny Mark Wahlberg. Also naked Mark Wahlberg, but that's beside the point. Who else lost it at the thunder song?

First Look: Total Recall With Totally Hot People

They've remade Total Recall with a pretty hot cast: Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho (!?!), Bryan Cranston, and Bill Nighy. The first trailer came out and it looks pretty good for a film that didn't need to be remade. The Paul Verhoeven film is actually pretty entertaining.

Can I just say, director Len Wiseman should get some kind of award for always making his wife, Kate Beckinsale, a really hot badass chick? This remake looks watchable, right? But will it have a three breasted alien? Internet says yes! Whew. I just hope Kuato also still exists.

First Look: Rock Of Ages (Full Trailer)

A whole slew of new movie trailers hit the net recently so we're going to spotlight some of them today, starting with the new one for Rock Of Ages. In it, you can get a little snippet of Tom Cruise's cover of "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.

I still think this is horribly miscast. I actually really enjoyed the stage show, and really like some of the folk in this film, but I think that overall, it still looks problematic. You?

Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, "Wasted"

From 2012, here's Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real with "Wasted."

Enjoy!

Like the song? The band's album drops today and they'll be playing it on Letterman tonight.

Forget 8 Proof, Here's 8-Bit Beer

Tallgrass Brewing Co. has an 8-bit beer on the market. I have no idea how this tastes. But I know the packaging speaks to me. And makes me thirsty.
