Cue the Axel F in 5, 4, 3...

A long long time ago we reported that there was a Beverly Hills Cop TV series in the works. I hadn't heard anything about it in ages so I thought it was dead. Until yesterday when it was announced that Brandon T. Jackson (who played Alpa Chino in the film Tropic Thunder) was signed to play the lead role in the upcoming TV series. Brandon will play Aaron Foley, Axel's son, who was born and raised in Detroit but moves out to California to fight crime in Beverly Hills. Eddie Murphy is slightly involved in this and will reprise his role of Aaron's dad Axel in at least the pilot.

On the one hand, I think Jackson is a terribly funny guy. On the other hand, do "son of" movies/tv shows ever succeed? And will the "Axel F" theme be tweaked for the next generation? But mostly, I say no Judge Reinhold, no show. Would you tune in to watch Beverly Hills Cop, the PG-rated TV show?

Eddie Murphy, "Boogie In Your Butt"

From 1982, here's Eddie Murphy with "Boogie In Your Butt."

Enjoy!

Triple Your Pleasure

I think we can all agree that Twins is obviously Arnold Schwarzenegger's greatest film accomplishment, am I right?

Entertainment Weekly just confirmed that a sequel, entitled Triplets, is currently in the works. The kicker? The third, heretofore missing son is slated to be played by... Eddie Murphy.

Arnie, Danny, and Eddie. Yes please.

Also from that EW article, did you know that Twins was Schwarzenegger's highest grossing comedy and one of the most successful films for both Danny DeVito and director Ivan Reitman? That's kind of insane.

I'd love to see Eddie Murphy get back into, you know, watchable adult comedy. Maybe he was good in that Tower Heist flick that just came out but this seems like a perfect Murphy reboot vehicle. Who's with me in thinking that this has potential to be really very funny, or possibly the worst thing put to film? I don't think there's a lot of middle ground here.

More Axel F?

Eddie Murphy recently sat down with Rolling Stone to give a rare interview and in it he said some interesting things, among which was an update on a new Beverly Hills Cop film, which has been rumored for an eternity:
Murphy has decided not to make Beverly Hills Cop IV. "They're not doing it," he says. "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I'd do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."
Glossing over the fact this he doesn't want a rehash but is involved with a rehash, kinda, I think it's interesting to see that Eddie is thinking about TV. Also, I want Judge Reinhold back. The world needs more Judge Reinhold, don't you think?

In any case, while I AM actually a big fan of the first two films, I'm not sure there's a need for a TV series. Would you want to see it?
