CD Review: Sunday Lane, From Where You Are

About a year ago, I had a chance to review the new EP by indie artist Sunday Lane, and I kind of dug it. Sunday's a young woman from Tulsa, has a classical piano background, and has a voice like Ellie Goulding. All in all, not bad attributes in my book. Her new album shows some promise. The album is a nice debut for her; it showcases her talents and shows a little bit of a stretch for her.

The first song, "Get To You," is a nice opener, bouncy indie pop, with guitar and piano. The next track, "A Little Too Young," is catchy; "A little too young to feel this old" is the refrain. Kind of appropriate since it's a more mature sound than the bubblegum pop of other gals her age. It's got some nice horns and audience participation moments that would make this a fun song live. And then it slides into "Let Me Go," which is a bit of a harder rock song and a nice change of pace. It's been bugging me for a few days what this song reminds me of. If you pick up the album, drop me a line because seriously, it's making me crazy. "Waltzing With Fire" is a piano ballad that's kind of a nice tune.

All in all, it's a nice album. If you dig chick vocalists like Sara Bareilles, Ellie Goulding, Ingrid Michaelson, or even Neko Case, check out Sunday Lane. She's already had a song hit the show "One Tree Hill" and I expect you might be hearing her more often soon.

Music Review: Sunday Lane, Bring Me Sunshine

Sunday Lane is a 20 year old singer-songwriter who recently moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Los Angeles to attend the Musicians Institute in Hollywood and pursue her music career. Ms. Lane just released her debut EP, Bring Me Sunshine, on iTunes, where she currently has 41 five-star ratings. Not bad for a rookie debut.

When I first sat down with the album, my first thought was "vocal shades of Ellie Goulding," and that's not a bad thing. The tracks on the EP are all pretty upbeat and folk-poppy. My favorites on the EP are the last two tracks: "Lack of Color" and "Reckless One." A number of her songs feature guitar but "Reckless One" is a piano song and it's gotten stuck in my head--and not in a "I need to stab my ears with an ice pick" kind of way.

All in all, I'd say that if you like Ellie Goulding or Ingrid Michaelson, check out Sunday Lane. This young lady's only going to get better with age I suspect.
