CD Review: Wideboy Generation, No Time To Be Shy
Back in February, I named fun.'s sophomore effort the best album of 2012. It's taken nearly four months, but I've finally found a disc that could end up challenging Some Nights for my #1 spot at the end of the year: Wideboy Generation's No Time To Be Shy.No Time To Be Shy is catchy punk, clocking in at a little bit longer than the A Side of an old C60, and will bring to mind bands you might find on an old cassette, like The Jam and the Buzzcocks. It's explosive, engaging, and truthfully, it's been pretty much all I've listened to during the past two weeks.
Wideboy Generation consists of three twenty-year-old guys from London who have been together for less than a year. In that short time, they have put together a sonic debut that is wise beyond their years, music that begs you to roll down the windows and scream along while banging out the rhythms on the steering wheel. While the whole album is great, my favorite tracks include the title track; "I Couldn't Talk," an awesome kiss-off song; "Get Up, Get Out," an ode to Fight Club; the Green Dayish "Typical Blonde;" and "Sylvia." And yeah, I did just name half the album; it's that good! There's not a weak track to be found.
I love this disc. If there is any justice in this world, these guys will break huge in the upcoming months.
No Time To Be Shy won't be released until July 30th. Until then, get your fix by listening to the album stream below.
