Downton Abbey Is Now A Thing

I can remember a time when I was the only teenager who watched costume dramas with my mother on PBS (spoiler alert: it was a lonely time). Now Downton Abbey fever has swept the nation, and the cool kids are co-opting the genre, much like J.J. Abrams did for sci-fi.

Don't get me wrong, the show is fantastic. It's basically a melodrama, but the costumes are great so it heightens the quality. Think Melrose Place during World War One. The thing is, everyone watching it knows it's good, but somehow people, especially some men, can't believe they like it so they have to assert a bit of irony in watching it. You know what that means- bring on the internet satire!

The tumblr Dowton Abbeyonce cleverly pairs scenes with Beyonce lyrics, which actually fit quite well.

Several comedians, both real ones and those who think Twitter makes them one, take to the web to livetweet their watching. Patton Oswalt is an especially big fan and takes to drinking wine while livetweeting the show. It's a nice compliment to your viewing.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but Dowton Abbey is actually a rip off of the 1970s show Upstairs, Downstairs. But I'm not about to to tell anyone.
