Free Download: Stephie Coplan & The Pedestrians, "No Assholes On Christmas"

You know we're big fans of Stephie Coplan here at Culture Brats: we interviewed her, reviewed her album, and even attended one of her shows. Last year, we shared her holiday song, "No Assholes On Christmas." This year, they hit the studio and did a proper recording of it. And the best part is they're giving it away for free (along with mp3s of "JERK!," "Take Me Back To The Suburbs," and "We Don't Need Much")! And all you need to do is put your email address and zip code in the little box below:

Exclusive Download: The Wicked, The Nightmare Before Christmas Medley

We've got something awesome for you today: a free download of a medley of several songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas performed by The Wicked with some help from members of The Venetia Fair (both bands have earned Song Of The Day honors here at Culture Brats). And you know what? It's really freaking awesome. It's creepy and spooky in all the right ways. The band is officially releasing it on their website on Halloween, but if you can't wait until then, you can download it here today for free so you can have it ready for your Halloween mix!

Here's the press release followed by the download:

Boston-based gypsy-punk band The Wicked just announced a release of their medley/cover of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" due out October 31st, 2012 via SwitchBitch Records as a free digital download. This genre-defying track presents a unique blend of inspiration, citing influences from The Dresden Dolls to Foxy Shazam.

The Wicked assembled in late August of 2011 as a duo and now operates as a solo act fronted by singer/songwriter Janele Mystique (18). With a revolving door of special guest appearances for live shows, every performance brings about a unique one-of-a-kind thrill. Janele immediately captures any audience with her strong Gwen Stefani-like pipes along with her aggressive guitar and piano skills.

This gypsy-punk cabaret based out of Salem, MA was quickly recognized by musician, studio, and label owner Michael Abiuso who signed The Wicked to SwitchBitch Records in early 2012. The Wicked recorded and released their full-length debut titled Never Trust The Dead August 9th and are now following up by treating their fans to a free digital download of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" medley/cover on Halloween. This track was performed by The Wicked/Janele Mystique with the assistance of Mr. Chark King (The Venetia Fair) on bass and Mike Abiuso who composed, performed, and produced the track at SwitchBitch Studios (Boston/Brooklyn).

So give the song a listen below and hit the Download button to get a free mp3 of The Wicked's The Nightmare Before Christmas medley!

Free Download: Snatches Of Pink

Snatches Of Pink were Chapel Hill's only true rock stars. While Chapel Hill may have produced bigger bands, no one embodied rock 'n' roll like Snatches Of Pink. Yesterday, I discovered that SOP front man Michael Rank had started a new band (Michael Rank And Stag) and to celebrate had posted most of Snatches Of Pink's back catalog on Bandcamp. For free.

So get ready to rock on the cheap.

Send In The Clowns

I hadn't listened to the band's first album, Send In The Clowns, for years. Why? It was only released on tape and vinyl and my tape had long since warped. So I've been listening to this pretty much all night long.
Favorite tracks: "Time Done Gone," "Cowboys And Injuns," and "Clementine."
